The European Year of Skills Festival

The European Union is embarking on an ambitious journey to address skills gaps and enhance the EU skills strategy with the launch of the European Year of Skills. This year-long initiative aims to empower individuals by equipping them with the necessary skills for the future job market, particularly in the realms of digital and green technologies.

The European Year of Skills will serve as a catalyst for reskilling and upskilling initiatives, offering individuals the opportunity to acquire in-demand skills and adapt to the evolving needs of the job market. By focusing on digital and green technology skills, the initiative aims to align the workforce with the demands of the digital transformation and the transition to a greener economy.

The European Commission, European Parliament, Member States, social partners, public and private employment services, chambers of commerce and industry, education and training providers, as well as workers and businesses, will join forces as key stakeholders in promoting skills development throughout the year.

“The European Year of Skills marks a significant step towards building a highly skilled and adaptable workforce,” said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. “By investing in skills and nurturing talent, we are laying the foundation for a prosperous and sustainable Europe. We need to equip our citizens with the competencies needed to succeed in the digital and green transformation, and this year-long initiative will play a vital role in achieving that goal.”

The European Year of Skills will showcase national efforts and existing as well as new EU initiatives that aim to bridge the skills gap. It will also emphasize EU funding possibilities available to support individuals, particularly those from small and medium enterprises, in acquiring the skills they need to thrive in the modern job market.

Over the course of the year, a wide range of activities and events will take place across Europe, including workshops, training programs, conferences, and awareness campaigns. These initiatives will provide individuals and businesses with valuable opportunities to engage, collaborate, and share knowledge to foster skills development.

The European Year of Skills officially commenced on May 9, and it will span 12 months, during which numerous actions and initiatives will be launched and promoted. To stay updated with the latest information and developments, follow the European Commission’s official channels and website.
